Theory Therapy 45: P Relief

Blissful electronics, impeccable selections.

We're kicking November off with a mix from California-born DJ and producer P Relief, who has recorded 60+ minutes of blissful electronics for Theory Therapy 45.

This mix aims straight at your dopamine receptors; at least for us it does. Ambient pads, breakbeats, dubbed-out drums—it’s such a good example of the range that Parker consistently brings to his sets. It weaves between a bunch of different styles and sub-genres but even with all the twists and turns, the Berlin-based DJ has carefully constructed a coherent vibe and as usual, the selections are absolutely on point. We’ll be listening to this one a lot over the Aussie summer, thanks Parker <3

Hey Parker, how are you today?

Doing super well, thanks :) Saw Kendrick Lamar here in Berlin last night so I’m riding that wave

What was the last song you listened to?

Rich Spirit (see above haha)

What is your favourite place or time to listen to music?

Oof…I would say in the car but I don’t drive much these days. On a walk is always a nice option!

You’re originally from California but moved to Berlin a while ago. What do you personally find special about the scene in Germany?

Well at least in Berlin, the lack of corporate influence and legal freedom clubs have to stay open late is pretty amazing. Easy, all-night public transportation is huge

Where are some of your favourite places to eat in Berlin?

I used to eat at this lebanese place near my old apartment, Al-Arz, very often. I love the pizza at Gazzo and L’antica pizzeria da Michele. Shaam in Neukölln is really nice.

Who are your biggest influences as a DJ?

Ron Hardy looms large when I think of influential DJs. I love Akimat’s mixes. I’ve never not enjoyed myself seeing DJ Fart in the Club, PLO Man, Roza Terenzi, Tornado Wallace or Physical Therapy.

Can you tell us a little about the mix? What were you feeling when you made it?

The mix is really just a collection of some stuff that’s new to me and some that I’ve had for a while but I never stray far from. I was just trying to make something people could turn on and it would enhance taking a hike, reading a book or doing the dishes.

Where did you record the mix?

At my house.

Where would you recommend listening to it?

Wherever! Not the club, I guess.

Are there any tracks you’ve used in the mix that are special or significant to you?

All are significant in some way.

Theory Therapy mixes are about sharing the music that you personally find therapeutic, cathartic or restorative. What does that mean for you?

Getting lost in the mix and allowing the music to shape or modify your reality.

Is there a particular album or piece of music that you find yourself returning to for similar reasons?

When I need a moment to collect myself I often turn on music by Harold Budd.

Tell us something exciting that's coming up in your life, music or otherwise.

I’m starting a Master’s Degree in English Literature this month. Wish me luck! :)
