There’s something knowingly anachronistic about Joseph Buchan’s latest on Theory Therapy, 'the best is yet to come'. Across three tracks, the Naarm producer leans into the emotional shorthand of late-’90s downtempo – low-end pressure, cracked percussion, melodies suspended in amber – while subtly reworking them into something gently refracted. Even the title feels double-coded, suspended somewhere between earnestness and irony. Rather than resisting nostalgia, Buchan traces its surface: the warmth, the artifice, and the strange comfort of hearing old feelings return in new forms.
