Theory Therapy 37: Mistareez

Theory Therapy 37: Mistareez

Shoegazing with Mistareez.

Theory Therapy 37 is an hour of slowcore and shoegaze carefully woven together by London-based producer Mistareez. It was recorded all over the city and I love the way there’s field recordings peppered throughout the mix—so good you can almost picture the view from the window.

The ANE label boss has been releasing some great music over the past couple of years—his latest xenosonic, has been on repeat since it came out—and his monthly Balamii show is a gold mine for smoggy ambient and downtempo. He's also got some of the best tunes I’ve heard in a while landing later this year. Can’t say much more than that right now but keep an eye out.

How are you today?

Doing good today, sun is shining and a new beginning round the corner:)

What was the last song you listened to?

I'm listening to Movietone rn!

Where’s your favourite place or time to listen to music?

Long London bus journeys.

Where’s your favourite music spot in London?

Iklectik for sitting, Fold for dancing.

What do you like about living in London?

Being able to easily go somewhere new everyday.

What artist or music are you really enjoying listening to at the moment?

New Organ Tapes on repeat atm.

What got you into the type of experimental electronic music you make and play on your Balamii show?

Corrosion.

Is there an artist or type of music you listen to a lot we might not expect based on your music and mixes?

Griselda bangs when u go for a run.

Your mix is on the shoegaze tip. What is it that drew you to that sound?

I've been mopey recently and shoegaze/slowcore brings me solace. Reminds me of what my mum would play on car journeys when I was a child.

Where did you record the mix?

All over, bb.

Where would you recommend listening to it?

Somewhere you can see trees and the sky.

Theory Therapy mixes are about sharing the music that you personally find therapeutic, cathartic or restorative. What does that mean for you?

I was in a weird place when putting this together and I'm feeling like I'm out the other side. Brought so much catharsis and restoration by these tracks lately.

Is there a particular album or piece of music that you find yourself returning to for similar reasons?

Grouper, I finally got to see her live recently and it was a beautiful experience.

What’s on the cards for the British summer?

Fucking chaos, lad.
